Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) has signed an understanding with Uber Pakistan to the creation of a large-scale economic opportunity program for BISP beneficiaries.

This partnership will help women entrepreneurs acquire requisite skills for complete and driving associated licensing demands for rickshaws and other modes of transport, as well as other training that improves applicants’ digital literacy, operational excellence, entrepreneurship skills, communication and customer care abilities.

A pilot project comprising of 100 BISP beneficiaries will likely be established in Karachi, Lahore Rawalpindi and Islamabad with 25 beneficiaries from every city. It will include advantage transfer of Rickshaws and Vehicles on zero collateral and simple installments to chosen beneficiaries.
It will also incorporate training of selected beneficiaries regarding road safety, security, wellness, nutrition etc. by tagging in different training agencies together with the BISP beneficiaries targeted by the programme. This partnership recognizes that the adoption of technologies by marginalized & low-income groups, specifically women, who are beneficiaries of this BISP programme, will help alleviate poverty and supply sustainable economic opportunities.
Speaking on the occasion, General Manager of UBER in Pakistan, Safee Shah stated: “Uber is working closely together with the BISP to develop a frame for on-demand transport technology aggregator services which will induce economic opportunities for girls in Pakistan. We view BISP as a crucial partner in providing such opportunities along with a key government entity in forcing the sustainable economic empowerment model in Pakistan.”
The MOU was signed today at BISP HQs in the presence of Chairperson BISP MNA Marvi Memon, Minister of State for Communications M. Junaid Anwar Chaudhary, and Minister of State for Industries and Production Sardar Arshad Khan Leghari.
Under this partnership, a pilot project will be conducted to try run the potential of Uber for the advantage of BISP beneficiaries. The vehicles will be provided without any deposit and it’ll include goal installation of Rs. 8000 monthly for five years repayment for BISP Beneficiaries.

Similarly, for rickshaws, goal installment of Rs. 5000-8000 monthly, for five years repayment for BISP Beneficiaries.

The main focus of this partnership is going to be held on the addition of girls beneficiary drivers in the programme for women empowerment.

Secretary BISP Omar Hamid Khan stated he was particularly excited about that MOU as this will take forward BISP beneficiaries in terms of technology in addition to women empowerment.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Chaudhary called it as a unique and innovative partnership whilst congratulating the management of BISP. He added that the partnership should be replicated in other bigger towns if it’s effective in the major cities. The minister also supplied the motorist’s learning and licensing from Motorway Police to the inheritance of the partnership.
She said that it’s an important initiative as BISP has respectable data of most vulnerable women in the society who might be provided adequate earning opportunities through this. Ms. Memon further said, “The safety, safety, and dignity of BISP beneficiaries are important to us.” She expected that the venture will help BISP beneficiaries exit the poverty trap.
